IDEACarbon has announced the appointment of Edwin Aalders, a leading industry figure and an expert on voluntary carbon standards, as Partner (operations and business development) for IDEACarbon and its sister company, the Carbon Rating Agency. Prior to his appointment at IDEACarbon, Mr Aalders was the Director of IETA since 2004, with responsibilities covering all IETAs activities related to the Flexible Mechanisms and Voluntary Market and the management of the Geneva office as well. Between November 2007 and October 2008, he acted as the CEO of the Voluntary Carbon Standard Association (VCSA) before taking on an advisory role. Mr Aalders has over 10 years of experience as an assessor in environmental auditing and climate change programmes whilst working for SGS between 1992 and 2004, before he joined IETA.

Speaking in response to his appointment, Mr Aalders said "IDEACarbon with its risk assessment and ratings, is able to perform quantitative analysis and qualitative judgements across all project types in the current and future GHG market. Following my successful period at SGS & IETA, I am looking forward to building and expanding IDEAcarbon's efforts to enhance understanding of risks. In a market that continues to see changes, it is critical that carbon assets reach the next level of participation, which includes the wider institutional market as well as existing carbon players."

Announcing the appointment, Ian Johnson, Chairman of the IDEACarbon, said "Edwin's knowledge and expertise in the CDM/JI and Voluntary markets will add significantly to the experience within IDEACarbon and the Carbon Rating Agency. It will help to further enhance our work and leading role in the market. The perspective and network that Edwin brings will also ensure that we continue to provide our clients and the market with unparalleled insights into carbon assets."

Edwin will transition out of his role as a Director of IETA during the remainder of 2009 and his role with Probus Sigma shall change to non-operational position of non-executive director.
