Market Initiated Ratings Service
The objective of the Carbon Ratings Agency’s Market Initiated Ratings Service is to give carbon market participants access to information about the carbon credit delivery risk profile of a representative range of CDM, JI, and voluntary projects.
Market Initiated Ratings are unsolicited ratings undertaken by the Carbon Rating Agency as a public service to the market in order to enhance market transparency.
Market Initiated Ratings are undertaken on a best effort basis based on secondary information available through public sources, the Credit Rating Agency’s proprietary databases, and interaction with market participants including developers where possible. In its role of a provider and publisher of opinions on the quality of carbon assets, the Carbon Rating Agency reserves the right to publish such MI ratings.
Subscribers to the service will get regular access to detailed project ratings, which include a detailed diagnostics report that examines the strengths and the risks associated with a project across a plethora of factors that broadly can be condensed into 5 main risk categories: 1) project concept, 2) project participants, 3) project context, 4) project implementation and 5) emission reduction framework. The ratings are a result of a structured analytical process that combines empirical data analysis and collective judgment of a highly experienced rating committee. The rigor of the analytical tools and process is designed to bring to the user information that is impartial and reliable. Each rating is highly detailed and runs to approximately 15 pages of information and analysis.
Subscribers to the Market Initiated Ratings Service will have immediate access to a portfolio of 20 project ratings. A further 10 project ratings will be made available every six weeks. The ratings covered by the service will be updated on a regular basis.
